It has been my honor for the past 20 years to walk with individuals and families through tough situations and to offer help and hope. I am a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor with adoption and foster care certifications, infant mental health certifications, TBRI and Theraplay training. I am also certified in EMDR therapy for PTSD, Gottman marriage counseling and have extensive experience in working with survivors of trauma. In addition, I have worked for the past 20 years, with children and adults with ADHD. I count it among my greatest privileges to sit with someone and hear their story. I stand ready and willing to listen to your story and to help you rewrite it into the story that God dreamed for you a long, long time ago.

“For as a man thinks within himself, so he is.” Proverbs 27:3

After spending over 25 years in Christian ministry, I felt called to work in the mental health field.

My passion in life is to help people to get healthy in their body, soul, and spirit so they can experience abundant life.

We all have a body, a soul, and a spirit; when any one or more of these parts of our being is not well, then our entire being suffers. Possibly the most vulnerable part of our being is often the most neglected. We learn how to take care of our bodies, and many know how to feed their spirits, but few know how to care for the natural mind until it is strong and healthy. The Word of God gives us the way for our lives to be transformed and that is by the renovation of the way we think.

I look forward to working with every person I counsel to grow stronger and healthier together, as we apply God’s principles into counseling techniques. I have experience working with diverse populations and also offer counseling in Portuguese as needed. Together, we can navigate towards an abundant life!

“I have been in public service my whole career but have always felt like I was being led to do more.  I believe that strong families are the cornerstone of a thriving community, and as Christians it is our duty to follow Matthew 5:14 and be the light of the world.  When we falter and are not exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit due to personal trouble or trauma as outlined in Galatians 5:22, what better way to receive a spiritual tune up than through Christ centered counselling.  Having worked with disadvantaged children and families, as well as adults suffering from severe acute and chronic mental health crises, I have found that my ability to connect with them on a human level and remain open minded is one of my greatest strengths as I help them identify and develop strengths to cope with their challenges.  All burdens are not meant to be dealt with alone. When someone is reaching out for help, I’m happy to provide assistance and demonstrate that where two or three are gathered in My name, there I am.”

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Life can be hard, but there is healing and hope through Jesus Christ!

I’m passionate about the Lord, His Word, and His people. I consider it a true honor to be able to sit with those who are willing to be bold enough to share their story. What a gift! Being vulnerable doesn’t make you weak; it makes you courageous! Sometimes you just need someone to come alongside of you to hold your arms up when you get tired. With the Lord leading, I’d love to listen to your story and walk alongside of you as we navigate the hardships of life together.

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

We are sojourners and pilgrims on the earth. For me, it is a gift to walk with you for part of your journey. Counseling is an opportunity for families, couples, and individuals of all ages to share their burdens. I'd like to provide an environment for you to explore your struggles and experience God's grace by integrating evidence-based practice with my faith. I hope you will take this next step so we can walk together to experience what it means to be people who are "called out of darkness into His wonderful light." https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NgBR6Om38eY&feature=youtu.be

Deuteronomy 31:8 "It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed."

Through a decade of service in education and teen ministry, a passion has emerged to help those in need through the healing of Jesus Christ my savior. I am a firm believer that God calls us to a career and to service that glorifies Him.  He has used me to teach, lead, and guide teens, and I know His calling on my life is leading me to continue reaching those in need by helping them navigate through life’s difficulties through counseling. I have trained in several techniques of counseling including trauma, play therapy, CBT, and art-informed techniques and would love the opportunity to help you walk through difficult times.https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=wBwVhmjEbOs&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR0Uf0qLLooleMGY35uGqEkZjhgMSSTb9p3TJnWWAiH_d3TnEa9ajOgKxkE

The first step towards healing is often simply sharing your story with someone who will listen.  That can take courage! I deeply respect each of my clients for allowing me to be a part of their growth.  I served as a NICU nurse for decades and I still enjoy working with new parents in transition and assisting new moms facing baby blues or postpartum issues.  I am also trained in supporting families dealing with perinatal grief. I work with individuals experiencing stress, anxiety or depression and help them find strength for their situation.  I also see couples, both for relationship “tune ups” as well as those in crisis. In addition, I truly enjoy working with middle and high school students and their families and I have served in the student ministry at my church for years.  Christian ministry is close to my heart and I am filled with compassion for the unique situation being a family in ministry brings. I fully believe God is the ultimate counselor and I am humbled to be used by Him in this role. I pray for each of my clients individually and specifically, and for God’s wisdom as they invite me into their journey.  I look forward to listening to your story.

Life is a journey that is often filled with unexpected bumps and twists that can make life seem unmanageable. However, you don’t have face those speed bumps alone. God has a plan and purpose for everyone, and I believe mine is to serve others. I am passionate about helping all whom God sends my way. Using evidence-based techniques through a Christian perspective, I strive to help others overcome life’s adversities. I have training in a variety of counseling techniques including narrative, CBT, Theraplay, and play therapy. I am TBRI certified and have experience with children and adolescents, as well as adoptive and foster families. My experiences combined with my professional training has fueled my passion to empower and help others overcome challenges and reach hope and healing. Lyndon B. Johnson said, “Peace is a journey of a thousand miles and must be taken one step at a time.” Where ever you may be in life, it would be a privilege to hear your story and be a part of your journey towards peace and wholeness.

"It's one of my greatest privileges to serve my community with a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental heart as a mental health clinician at Faith and Hope Counseling. I work with children, adults, couples, and families of all backgrounds to identify and work towards the happy and healthy life they desire. It can be extremely difficult sometimes to recognize and admit when we need a little help. For many, taking that first step is the most difficult. But luckily after you take the first step, I am here and waiting to guide you through the rest, with the hope and wisdom we have in Jesus."

Terra Shishido

I have known and seen the redemptive love of Jesus and the restoring and healing nature of a relationship with Him. Troubles are inevitable, but how we overcome and deal with those troubles is our choice.

I love the concept that  God feeds even the birds. God is so into the small details of our world and our lives that he provides for the birds every day,  and if a bird can trust the Lord to provide, we can trust in the Lord with our troubles and needs.

I take a holistic, multi-cultural, and integrative approach to therapy, tailoring each session to my client as the unique individual God set them apart to be. I have training in CBT, mindfulness, resilience-based skills, Theraplay, and play therapy techniques. I am TBRI trained and have completed Level 1 training in Gottman Couples Therapy. I have experience working with children and adolescents, and women, as well as military couples and families. I have been a military spouse for over 13 years and have worked for over a decade within the military community as a Key Spouse counselor providing support, advocacy, resources, and information to help strengthen military families.

In therapy, I hope to empower and equip you to see your potential as a cherished and valued individual in Christ and help you set goals to get you to your destination, wherever that may be.

Helping and serving people is my passion and it is an absolute honor to have people share their stories with me, and I would love to partner with you on your journey.

“He restores my soul...”

There are times when life takes unexpected turns that may lead us to feel disoriented, weary and in need of an encouraging word and a new vision. With a background in child education, teen ministry, and years of working with adults overcoming trauma, poverty, and broken relationships, I am humbly blessed to have the opportunity to sit alongside the still waters with those who need a time of healing and refreshing. I am trained in anxiety, depression, young adults, women’s issues, men’s issues, stress management and life balance, parenting skills and support, as well as divorce recovery and EMDR.I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your story.

I believe one of my purposes in life is to provide help to those in need. My life’s journey thus far has led me to work with a diverse group of individuals, and learn counseling techniques. My experience includes working with addictions, children, adults, and various mental health issues. Lao Tzu said, “Every journey starts with a single step.” For some, seeking help is one of the first steps of life’s journeys. For others, seeking help could be in a later stage of their journey. It would be a privilege to help you in your life’s journey.

Terri Daugherty

One of my greatest desires is to help guide people to hope and healing through God’s word and proven therapeutic techniques. It would be my honor to serve you in this capacity and to help you discover the plans and purposes God has for you.

Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. There are times when we all need a friend, a confidant, and ally to walk beside us. Sometimes we need that person to tell us we are headed in the wrong direction, and at other times, we need that person to just listen as we work out everyday issues. At times, we all need someone to lift us up, and cheer us on, encouraging us to take one more step. I have training in numerous counseling techniques and experience working with diverse populations. I would be honored to walk alongside of you on your journey, to listen when you need an ear, encourage when you are discouraged, guide when you feel lost and to lift when you feel down.

Amy Hagler

Sometimes, life is overwhelming.  Some days, you hold it together flawlessly, and other days, it’s all you can do to hold it together period.  There are hurts in life that don’t just go away with the passage of time.  There are emotional wounds that we learn to live around in order to function ‘normally’ in our everyday lives.  But Jesus said in John 10:10 “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”

I believe Jesus didn’t just come to heal the wounds of the physically afflicted, but the emotionally broken as well.  Jesus was a ‘man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief,” and He empathizes with our weaknesses.  Through Him and His word, we can find healing and a freedom from all the hurts we stuff behind our smiles, so that we can truly live life to the full.  My passion and experience are in walking alongside teens and women who long to be whole and are just curious enough to take the first step toward life more abundant.  Could that be you?  Come take that first step with me.

"You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending." -C.S. Lewis

Life is a story that takes us in many directions and often by surprise; however, I truly believe we were not meant to write our stories alone. As a counselor, it is my hope and honor to listen and support those with whom I have the privilege to work alongside. My training has prepared me to work with individuals, including children, teens, and adults, as well as with couples and families. Whatever your current circumstances or life twists, it would be a pleasure to be a part of your story.

Ama Owusu-Daaku

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:1-3

There is no better way to answer the questions of: “What am I doing as a counselor?” and “how am I doing what I do?” than with the aforementioned verse. All my life experiences (both good and bad), and my training (both as a counselor and as an engineer) have been and are being used by GOD to help “the poor, broken hearted, captive, bound, and mourning – whether they be young or old, married or single, female or male etc.

Originally from Ghana and having lived in Iowa City, IA and Columbia, SC before coming to Pensacola; I have a variety of experiences to draw from, in addition to my counseling training (even my background in civil engineering), that will help me point you towards true, lasting healing. I have training and experience with children, couples, individuals and families and welcome the opportunity to help you.

The struggle is real, but so is Jesus!

Life has a way of throwing us curveballs of spark fear, anxiety, trauma, and depression that can make our thoughts spin out of control.  However, God said clearly in Isaiah 41:40, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  The good news is that we don’t have to do life alone!  I am here to listen to your story and walk with you as you continue to write the next chapter that brings fulfillment and love through Jesus Christ.

Twenty years of experience working with children and adolescents have taught me that no single issue can be dealt with in isolation.  I believe in a holistic, integrative approach to counseling that revolves around the whole person.  Together, we will identify your concerns and approach them with a combination of therapeutic practices and scripture.  I have training in cognitive-based therapy (CBT), Theraplay and play therapy techniques, art-informed therapy techniques, and trauma-based relational intervention (TBRI).  I’m excited to work with people and families of all ages and backgrounds as we walk through this journey of healing and wellness together.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you
rest." Matthew 11:28

Maybe you are feeling weary and burdened right now. You are not alone.
I know that the challenges in our lives can oftentimes become
overwhelming. My belief is that it is only when we seek God and fall on
Him that we can find true healing. I have a background in childhood education and have also worked with adolescents and adults.

It would be my great privilege to meet with you
and work together with you toward your treatment goals. There is hope! There is help!

 My prayer is that your
time at Faith and Hope Counseling Center would promote your faith in God
and your sense of well-being.
